In May of 2010, on behalf
of Montville Youth Service Bureau, I excitedly filled out a grant
application to submit to the Montville Education Foundation to be
considered for grant funding. We were in desperate need of new
computers for the Youth Center’s thriving after school program.
Our students often need the computers to work on homework and larger
academic projects; so we needed updated and reliable computers to be
able to offer our program participants the opportunity to achieve
success.
Well our dream
became a realty in September of 2010 when in “publishers clearing
house style”, members of the Montville Education Foundation
arrived at the Montville Youth Center to inform us we had been
chosen to receive funding ( yes, with the big cardboard check and
balloons, too). I did feel as though we had just won a big prize!
Within a few weeks of receiving the check from MEF we were able to
purchase five new computers and monitors for the Youth Center!
The impact that this
award has had on our program participants has truly been, and
remains a positive one. Our students are able to easily access
resources on the internet, complete homework and school projects,
and occasionally play a game or two. However, our students are not
the only people whom benefit from these computers. Montville
residents who need the computers to do research, or take town
sanctioned surveys, etc. can stop by the Youth Center and use one of
our computers. Our computers have safety features in place and are
maintained through the town’s Information Technology (IT)
department.
Thank
you Montville Education Foundation for “Making a World of
Difference”!
Warm regards,
Barbara
