What Do We Support

The MEF has established criteria for the types of programs that will be funded. In general, programs that have broad impact and reach the greatest number of individuals as well as affect the greatest number of groups in the community (educators, children, parents, and seniors) is of great interest to the MEF Board. Grant submittals will be evaluated based on whether they enrich or enhance programs that are in place or bring new educational opportunities to the town’s residents.

Funding will be used solely for the items or program detailed in the approved grant proposal, unless approval to augment or change the request is granted by the Montville Education Foundation, Inc. Any funds that are not used for the approved grants will be returned for future awards.

The MEF in its sole discretion may accept or reject any project and is under no obligation to fund a project that it determines does not fit with its philosophy or guidelines.

Who decides whether the project/program gets funded?

The MEF Grant Committee reviews grant applications each cycle and makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors. All grant proposals are reviewed and decided upon “blindly”. Committee members review without knowledge of who submitted the proposals. Awards are announced following the approval by the Board of Directors.

The Grant Committee may choose to offer partial funding at its discretion. MEF encourages collaborative funding and invites applicants to seek partial or additional funding from other sources.

What Makes A Grant Successful

· The application must be complete and comply with deadlines. It should include a clear presentation of the request using MEF’s application form.

· The proposal demonstrates creativity and creates new pathways of learning and targets a significant number of people.

· The applicant agrees to account for, and report on the project once funded.

· The applicant clearly communicated a need in the community and identifies how the need will be addressed and the benefits.

· The applicant has clearly outlined the instructional plan, its objectives and goals and the timeline.
